Real Madrid

Reguilón resigned to accept secondary role under Zidane

The 22-year-old is aware that with the return of Zinedine Zidane on the Real Madrid bench, the coach is likely to use the Brazilian as his main left back.

Following an impressive pre-season, Sergio Reguilón eventually burst into the first team squad and his evolution been one of the positive stories for Real Madrid in this totally disappointing campaign for the Bernabéu side. However the 22-year-old may see his progression halted with the return of French coach Zinedine Zidane on the Real Madrid bench who has always titled towards Marcelo as his first choice left-back.

"I've never felt like I'm a regular first team player with the team as I'm aware that I'm behind Marcelo in the pecking order", stated the defender on TV show El Chiringuito. His views do show a level of maturity from a player who is prepared to play his role for the side whether it be from the bench or in a starting role.

Madrid stats better with Reguilón

The player's statistics add weight to his input this season with the Bernabéu side winning 14 and losing five with the Reguilón starting, this contrasts to 14 wins, three draws and eight defeats with Marcelo starting as left back.

Reguilón's performances have not gone unnoticed this season as the Madrid born player earned his first Spain U-21 call up winning his first cap in the recent game for "La Rojita" against Romania and the Madrid left-back is destined to be a key player for coach Luis Del la Fuente as Spain kick off their Euro 2019 Under 21 campaign in June.
