Luis Suárez hoping to end UCL drought at Old Trafford

Despite the Uruguayan being a key player for Barça in LaLiga, the striker has failed to find the target in over three and a half years in the Champions League away from home.

Luis Suárez has been instrumental in helping set Barcelona on course to secure their fourth LaLiga title in five seasons. It's not just the Uruguayan's twenty goals this campaign but the impact of some of these strikes, his injury time goal securing a win away to Rayo, his last minute equaliser against Villarreal last week or his hat-trick against arch rivals Real Madrid in October 2018 as part of the 5-1 win. His goals have also been vital in cup competition with his double against Madrid at the Bernabéu instrumental in seeing the Catalan side participate in yet another Copa Del Rey final.

Champions League test

The next challenge for Suárez is the Champions League as Barça travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the quarter final (first leg). The United stadium was the venue where Suárez (then a Liverpool player) refused to shake Patrice Evra's hand after the alleged racist incident between both players earlier in the 2010/11 season.

In his time at Liverpool, Suárez bagged two goals in the famous red shirt at Old Trafford and secured one win for "the Reds" at the ground of their arch rivals on March 16th 2014 (0-3). The emphatic victory briefly tilted the Premier League title Liverpool's way but a disappointing run-in ultimately saw the title head to Chelsea.

Contradicting to his current prolific LaLiga strike rate, one has to go back to September 2015 to record Suarez's last Champions League goal away from Camp Nou (away to AS Roma) and the Uruguayan will be hoping that the 'Theatre of Dreams' is the perfect setting to break this barren spell.
