Luis Suárez opened his goal-scoring account in the Champions League this season against Liverpool, in their 3-0 Champions League semi-final first leg win. Incredibly, the second-top-scoring striker in LaLiga had yet to grab a goal in Europe this season, and in fact you have to go back to Barcelona's 4-1 win against Roma in the first leg of last year's quarter-final for his last European strike. In total Suárez went 838 minutes in Europe without scoring.

Alba set up Suárez to break Euro drought

This evening, after eight games firing European blanks, a wonderful assist from Alba from the left allowed Suárez to sneak in behind the Liverpool defence to get a slight touch to beat Alisson at his near post.

This goal, coming as it did at the Camp Nou, means Suárez other dry run continues, that of failing to score in Europe away from home. His last goal on the road was three seasons ago, also against Roma on 16 September, 2015. In total Suárez has scored 20 Champions League goals for Barcelona, out of a total of 177 across all competitions.
