Madrid fear Jovic injury as player flies to China with Frankfurt
The decision to force Jovic to travel to the Far East has not gone down well with Real Madrid, who have already agreed terms with the 21-year-old Serbian.
Luka Jovic has travelled to China with Eintrecht Frankfurt to take part on a six-day mini-tour of Asia, which begins with a friendly match against Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg on Friday.
The decision to force Jovic to travel to the Far East has not gone down well with Real Madrid, who have already agreed terms with the 21-year-old Serbian.
Having watched Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa suffer a sprained ankle against Beitar Jerusalem in Isreal on Tuesday, the Madrid hierarchy will be anxious about the possibility of their star signing sustaining an injury in an essentially meaningless friendly.
Madrid hope Jovic will not participate against Wolfsburg
Frankfurt have brought all of its 22-man squad to China and Madrid will hope the club will chose not to play Jovic against Wolfsburg in Foshan on Friday.
With some loose ends still to be tied up in negotiations for Jovic (whose signing is already finalized), Frankfurt’s decision to travel with their biggest star will force Madrid to delay their plan to officially announce him as their first big summer signing. So far, the only announcement the club has been able to make has been the renewal of Toni Kroos’ contract for one more year.
Frankfurt wanted Jovic's star pull
With Frankfurt set to partake in several commercial and media activities in Asia after the Wolfsburg game, the club wanted to leverage the star pull of Jovic, which is the main reason he has travelled on the tour.
Even the German press itself is wondering whether Jovic will play any part in the game, considering the fact that his signing for Real Madrid is so imminent.
