Mbappé abandoned as PSG sporting director departs
PSG sacked sporting director Antero Henrique, who was one of the most trusted figures in Mbappé's inner circle and the player’s direct link to the club's board.
Some clouds are beginning to hang over Kylian Mbappé’s future at PSG.
On Saturday, the Parisian club sacked sporting director Antero Henrique after two seasons at Parc de Princes, with the Portuguese set to be replaced by Leonardo, who previously held the role from 2011 to 2013.
One of the reasons cited for Henrique’s dismissal was his poor relationship with coach Thomas Tuchel (whose relationship with Mbappé is also said to be fractured), as well as his acquisition of players on whom the German boss has hardly depended during his first season in Paris.
Mbappé sends message of thanks to Henrique
Henrique’s exit has dealt a hard blow to Mbappé and his inner circle. The Portuguese executive played a crucial role in the young striker's transfer from Monaco two summers ago and has always been at his side at key moments during his time in Paris.
"Thank you, sir, for everything you have done for me here,” said Mbappé of Henrique, who was one of the most trusted figures in his circle and the player’s direct link to the PSG board.
The arrival of Leonardo has provoked a certain level of mistrust among Mbappé’s camp, whose movements will now be watched very closely by Real Madrid.
