According to Radio Galega, the ageement which Celta and Valencia had for the trasnfer of Maxi Gómez is now void as the Uruguayan forward is set to join West Ham. The Hammers are willing to meet the player's 50 million euro buy-out fee, in what will be the most expensice departure in Celta's 96-year history.

The player had envisaged remaining in LaLiga and playing in this season's Champions League with Marcelino's Valencia. Now it looks like he'll be playing in the Premier League - West Ham, will use the money earned from the sale of Marko Arnautovic to Shanghai SIPG (around 25 million euros), to pay Gómez's buy-out.

Valencia deal quashed

The arrangement Celta had with Valencia will be invalid. The Galician club was set to receive 14.5 million euros, plus Santi Mina as a makeweight in the operation and Jorge Sáenz on a one-year loan. The biggest winners however will be Gómez's former club Defensor Sporting who will receive a 20% cut of the fee - thanks to West Ham they stand to gain a 10 million euro windfall
