Keylor Navas' new beginning
The Costa Rican is all set for another top-flight debut following his move from Real Madrid to PSG this summer, and past examples bode well.
Keylor Navas will begin a new stage in his career at PSG this weekend. His official bow is expected to be made at the Parc des Princes against Strasbourg, as the Costa Rican experiences his third top-flight debut.
His arrival in Paris provides Tomas Tuchel with an elite level goalkeeper, the one he craved, to help the club compete in their cherished Champions League, with Sergio Rico left playing back-up to the man with plenty of knowledge about winning the world's biggest club competition. We have a look at how his previous debuts have panned out...
Debut 1: Levante vs Athletic Club
In the 2011/12 season, Keylor joined Levante on loan despite having seen his own side Albacete relegated to Segunda B. His first season there was spent in the shadow of Gustavo Munúa, but made his league debut in the final game of the campaign. Levante beat Athletic Club 3-0 to secure a Europa League place (for the first time ever in club's history) and Navas signed a three-year deal.
As first choice in the 2013-14 season, he won the best goalkeeper award, conceding 39 goals in the 36 games played. Impressive for a lower ranked side.
Debut 2: Real Madrid vs Elche
In 2014, Real Madrid snapped up the impressive stopper for 10 million euros as back-up to club legend Iker casillas. His debut for Los Blancos came in Matchday 4, at the Bernabeu against Elche. Despite conceding a goal, the home side went on to win 5-1.
Navas took over the number one spot in the Spanish capital in the 2015-16 campaign as Casillas departed, although almost immediately left for Manchester Utd in a fax-machine-errored swap deal with David de Gea. After that, the Costa Rica star never looked back, picking up a LaLiga winner's medal and three Champions Leagues along the way.
There will be many people hoping that his success continues in the French capital, and an equally impressive third debut will be the ideal start...
