Following France Football's creation of a men's Ballon d'Or for goalkeepers, the debate is already underway as to who should be the inaugural winner of the award, which has been named after the legendary Russian Lev Yashin - the only keeper in the history of the game to have won the regular Ballon d'Or.

There are several players who are in with a chance of lifting the 2019 Yachine Trophy, which will be presented at the Ballon d'Or gala in Paris on 2 December.

Alisson shaping up as favourite to claim maiden award

Fresh from winning the Champions League and the Copa América with Liverpool and Brazil, respectively, Alisson Becker appears to be the favourite. The 26-year-old has already scooped 2018/19's UEFA Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season trophy, and is also leading the chase to be named the campaign's outstanding performer in his position at FIFA's The Best Awards on 23 September.

Oblak and Ter Stegen among host of other contenders

Also among the Yachine Trophy's potential recipients are Jan Oblak (Atlético Madrid and Slovenia), Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona and Germany), Ederson Moraes (Manchester City and Brazil), Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich and Germany) and Hugo Lloris (Tottenham and France).

Oblak has established himself as a crucial element of Atlético's miserly defence, but his prospects of claiming the gong are damaged by Los Rojiblancos' failure to lift any silverware in 2018/19. Ter Stegen, Ederson and Neuer were all domestic league winners with their clubs last term, while Lloris played a key role in Tottenham's run to the final of the Champions League.

10-man shortlist to be revealed in October

On 21 October, France Football will announce its 10-man shortlist for the accolade, on which we could also see the likes of Keylor Navas (Real Madrid/Paris Saint-Germain and Costa Rica) and Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid and Belgium), despite the pair playing their part in a poor campaign at the Bernabéu last season.
