Boca Juniors are set to make a concrete offer to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic to La Bombonera from LA Galaxy, AS understands from a source close to the negotiations, after being offered the services of the former Sweden striker via his agent, Mino Raiola.

Both Boca chairman Daniel Angelici and sporting director Nicolás Burdisso have given the green light to the operation with half an eye on upcoming club presidential elections in December, on the basis that a star signing of Ibrahimovic’s quality would strengthen their hand as they seek to retain control of the famous Argentinean club.

If they manage to secure the combustible Swede it would represent a major coup and add to their collective CV after the unexpected arrival in Buenos Aires of Roma legend Daniele De Rossi last summer after the Italian’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico expired.

Ibrahimovic’s wages would of course pose a problem for Boca to overcome but the Swede’s contract with LA Galaxy expires at the end of December and it is extremely unlikely he will sign another one as he eyes another challenge elsewhere. Ibrahimovic has already turned down a lucrative offer from Qatar that Boca will not be able to match, suggesting the 37-year-old is seeking a more romantic new chapter in his career. It is also worth noting that his current manager at LA Galaxy, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, was at Boca until recently and will surely not hesitate to advise the forward to follow De Rossi’s lead and play in the stadium that made Diego Maradona’s name, where he could form an attacking partnership with Carlos Tévez.
