Real Madrid player ratings against Mallorca
A poor night overall for Zidane's Real Madrid side as they suffered their first league defeat of the season away to newly promoted Mallorca.
Courtois: Another forgettable evening for the Belgian. He could have done better to keep out Junior Lago’s goal, while another ruled-out Mallorca goal was also saveable.
Odriozola: The full back was at fault in Junior Lago’s goal by failing to close down the Mallorca striker, which gave him the time and space to score. He ended up getting sent off for picking up two yellow cards, the second of which coming from a completely unnecessary challenge on Junior Lago.
Ramos: The captain had little to do with the defeat. He tried his best to get on the end of several set pieces, but didn’t have any luck.
Militao: Decent showing at right back, particularly in the second half. A fitting replacement for the injured Carvajal.
Marcelo: Still far from his best. He had one decent shot from outside the box but did little else.
Casemiro: Fatigue was showing after his recent travels for international duty. But he did well to break down the opposition play on several occasions. In attack, he messed up a pass in the danger area on one occasion to stifle a Madrid attack.
James: Plenty of decent set-piece deliveries and played a stunning long ball to set up Benzema’s 27th minute chance that hit the crossbar. His defensive duties left a lot to be desired in the first half, but he tried harder in the second half.
Isco: Did nothing to threaten Mallorca. He lacked a bit of rhythm, understandable with the injuries he has suffered, and was a little muddled throughout.
Vinicius: Plenty of shots on goal but his lack of accuracy was somewhat alarming.
Jovic: The Ukrainian centre forward, who played ahead of Benzema, left the game without a shot on goal. That says it all.
Benzema: Had Madrid’s best chance when he did well to get on the end of James’ floated pass to hit the cross bar. The Frenchman had little support from his team mates and can’t be expected to do it all on his own up top.
Brahim: Did little in his 10 minute cameo.
Rodrygo: Not much to report from his 25-minute appearance. Messed up a pass in the box to end a Madrid chance on the break.
Valverde: Big mistake from Zidane not to start him. When he came on, he clearly helped to balance Madrid.
