Barcelona player ratings vs Levante: Messi can't do it alone
DAVID GONZALEZDIARIO AS

Ter Stegen. He had to pick the ball out of the back of his net three times and he's lucky it wasn't more because Levante had several chances at the end to add to their tally. The German couldn't really have done more for the second goal, a deflected shot from outside the area and the other two were just as difficult as they were both struck perfectly - 6.

Sergi Roberto. All heart but that doesn't mean he played well. He ran himself into the ground, fought for every ball and tried to move into advanced positions to deliver a cross for an assist. Defensively committed but lacked something going forward - 5.

Piqué. Poor game from the centre-back who remains far from his best. Levante attacker got the better of him on several occasions. First goals was partly his fault as he didn't clear his lines properly and gave Levante the chance to attack in a nice position. Pushed off the ball several times too as he faded late on - 3.

Lenglet. A complicated outing for the French defender. Morales left him for dead in the penalty area, which was a brief summary of his afternoon. A game to forget - 4.

Semedo. Was one of the best of a bad bunch. Despite being planted on the left, which isn't his position, his connection was Griezmann caused problems for the first half and resulted in the penalty along with some good chances. Switched off like his teammates in the second half - 6.

De Jong. The Dutch player looked like he was rising above the poor collective performance of his team. He couldn't do it all on his own though and couldn't plug all the gaps in midfield. Broke lines with his passes, dribbled when he needed to and made the right decision nearly ever time he touched the ball. His display was diluted by the poor result but promising none the less - 7.

Vidal. Worked as usual to apply pressure in search of his next victim. But when they needed him to add a little extra, he couldn't supply it. There had been cries for his inclusion but this game needed more nuance and less muscle. This game should force a reassessment of his role - 4.

Arthur. A game with a lot of ups and down for the Brazilian. Added something at times and in others, left Barcelona frustrated. Gave the assist for Semedo for the penalty but he lacked in too many areas of the game including getting booked early on. Taken off for Ansu Fati after an inconsistent display - 4

Messi. The best footballer there has ever been and one of the only players that can decide any game. He scored the penalty and looked dangerous, scoring another that was ruled out for offside. Put one on a playe for Ansu Fati but he headed into the keeper. His teammates not at his level and in the end he was left with too much to do - 8.

Suárez. The Uruguayan couldn't continue after a first half injury to his calf. His involvement to that point was erractic. His best involvement was a cross into the box. Taken off for Carles Perez - 5

Griezmann. His first half was very good. He got involved and always willing to link with Semedo on the left. He also linked well with the rest of his teammates in attack in that opening half and worked hard defensively. He disappeared in the second half in attack - 6.

SUBSTITUTES

Carles Pérez. Never looked comfortable, losing a lot of possession and being out of touch with his teammates. Offered a good chance but didn't take it and looked out of his depth - 4.

Sergio Busquets. Came on when Barcelona had lost complete control of the game. Didn't get too involved as there was no need for him. Not on long enough for a grade.

Ansu Fati. He looked very lively coming in off the left and had a good chance. His movement was good and he put Levante under pressure when he had the ball. But it was all very scattered at that point and he was booked for a frustrating challenge late on. Not on long enough for a grade.
