The Aspire Academy in Qatar played host to the Grand Prix of Doha fencing tournament between 24 and 27 January with Russia’s Sergey Bida and Romania’s Ana Maria Brânza topping the rankings after the three-day event.

A total of 394 fencers from 45 countries, including world champions, took part in the Grand Prix, one of the most important events in the annual international calendar organized by the International Fencing Federation.

Aspire praised for staging of Grand Prix

The Doha Grand Prix has been staged in the Qatari capital under the auspices of the Qatar Weightlifting and Fencing Federation since 2004 and attracts the top competitors on the international circuit, whose world rankings are directly affected by their results.

Khaled Issa Al Hammadi, Secretary General of the Qatar Weightlifting and Fencing Federation, praised the work of the Aspire Academy in staging the event to the requirements laid out by the International Fencing Federation.
