Despite reports that the Uruguayan striker has decided to sign for Atlético Madrid, the Ligue 1 giants are holding out for a more succulent offer.

PSG reject Atlético Madrid's €15m bid for Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani is a step closer to joining Atlético Madrid. The Rojiblancos are very close to reaching an agreement with PSG, and the striker has already said his goodbyes to his team matesaccording to reports in France.

However, Atlético have failed with a 15m bid for the Uruguay international striker, according to L'Équipe, and will have to up their offer for the 32-year-old despite the player only having six months on his contract at the Parc des Princes.

Cavani turned down several offers from the Premier League - including one from Manchester United, for the chance to to play in LaLiga. PSG though do not need to sell Cavani in January and Thomas Tuchel sees the club's record scorer as a useful option to have on the bench in reserve for Mauro Icardi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar in case of injuries and suspensions as the business end of the season approaches.

Cavani's final hours at PSG

Cavani reportedly bid farewell to the PSG squad on Tueday but it seems as though his wait to become an Atlético player could go to the wire. He will leave as PSG's all-time top goal scorer but in recent months he has lost his place in the starting XI, and now hardly figures at all in Tuchel's plans. The coach prefers to use Inter loan striker Icardi in the team's big games.

Cavani has also missed 20 games this season through injury, but Atlético's own scoring problems will likely see an improved bid lodged as the transfer clock ticks towards the 31st.
