Barcelona: Dembélé suffers complete tear of right hamstring
Barcelona have released a statement saying Ousmané Dembélé has suffered a complete tear of his right thich as they decide what action to take.
Ousmané Dembélé has a complete tear of his right hamstring say FC Barcelona. The French winger left training on Monday with what was described as 'muscle fatigue' but on Tuesday, the club confirmed he has another tear in the muscle.
The 22-year-old has been out for the last 10 weeks with a hamstring tear and had been recovering between Barcelona Qatar. He had stepped up that recovery in recent weeks and started training again.
Barcelona released a tweet on Tuesday saying it was a "complete proximal tear" of the hamstring of his right thigh and they would decide in the coming days what path they would take. Dembélé will effectively miss the rest of the season with surgery most likely after such a significant tear.
"Tests carried out on Tuesday on Ousmane Dembélé have shown that the player has a complete proximal hamstring tear in his right thigh," said the statement. "In the next few hours a decision will be made on the treatment to be followed for his recovery."
Dembélé's time at Barcelona has been plagued with injury. He moved to the club during the summer of 2017 after Neymar left and suffered his first setback in September with a hamstring tear. He missed 20 games before returning. He missed another seven games at the start of 2018 with another muscle injury.
He suffered four injuries the following season missing four months with ankle and muscle injuries. This season, he suffered a hamstring injury early in the year and then went down with another hamstring tear in November. The latest setback means he will miss another significant chunk of time.
