Real Madrid received a boost on Wednesday as Eden Hazard reported back for duty at Valdebebas after returning to the Spanish capital following successful surgery on a fibula injury, which was carried out on 5 March in Dallas. The Belgium international has been out of action since limping off against Levante on 22 February but turned up at Real Madrid's training ground to undergo a coronavirus test with the rest of the squad before a return to training looking trim and ready for action.

Hazard has already been doing some light ball work and has been gradually regaining his fitness while doing specific strengthening work to recover from his injury. Initially it was thought that he would miss the remainder of the season but with LaLiga on hold and the Champions League slated to be played in August, Zinedine Zidane has the unexpected addition of the Belgian star to his squad for the potential domestic run-in and the end of the European campaign

Hazard has said he did not anticipate featuring for his club again this season and had targeted a return to action at the 2020 European Championship. That tournament has now been postponed for a year and Zidane may be able to call on Hazard as soon as Liga action resumes with the Belgian now only about two weeks away from being able to play.
