MLS Players join Floyd’s protests in the United States

Mark-Antony Kaye from Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) and Kamal Miller from Orlando City joined the protest over police brutality against black people this weekend even though the 2020 MLS season is about to resume. Both footballers shared pictures in their social media accounts and both were wearing face masks to prevent getting sick from coronavirus.

For the first time in the history of the country all 50 states have joined the movement ‘Black Lives Matter’ that was sparked by the death of George Floyd when a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck to the point he couldn’t breath which caused his death. This weekend we saw how other countries are joining this movement like in England, who destroyed a historic statue that was built three centuries ago.

The Canadian footballer shared in his Twitter account several pictures where you can see him peacefully protesting in the streets of Los Angeles with hundreds of other people around him. He quoted “We stand in unity. Be part of the change or stay part of the problem.”

Kamal Miller

The defender from Orlando City F.C. posted a picture of him in the middle of the city wearing a face mask, a Muhammad Ali shirt and a poster that said “Black Lives Matter.” In the picture he posted he wrote the following message: “All I want is to be equal. That is all we have ever asked for. Our voices are now being heard all around the world. This is just the beginning.”

We have seen multiple athletes use their social media to join the movement and even in the Bundesliga, the only major league in Europe that resumed after the coronavirus break, we have seen players and teams showing their support.
