Aston Villa vs Manchester United: Premier League preview

With five games remaining of the 2019/20 season Aston Villa will need to improve on their worrying recent form if they are to stand any chance of securing Premier League survival. Dean Smith’s newly-promoted side have picked up just two points in their five games since the restart and face a United team brimming with confidence. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to have finally found a system that suits his young squad and has been rewarded with some scintillating performances in recent weeks. The Red Devils have scored at least three goals in three of their last four games and will look to continue that at Villa Park.

Solskjaer looks to build on forwards’ form

A lot has been made of the impact that Bruno Fernandes has had since his January arrival but in recent games it has been United’s front three who have drawn plaudits. Anthony Martial (24-years-old), Marcus Rashford (22) and Mason Greenwood (18) were all on the scoresheet against Bournemouth on Saturday and look to be forming a potent attacking force. The three of them have now scored 55 goals between them in all competitions, four more than Liverpool’s fabled front-line this season, and are expected to start together again against Villa. The form of Greenwood in particular has been encouraging for United fans with Solskjaer calling him “one of the best, if not the best, finisher I have worked with”.
