After losing in their first official game at the Banc of California against LAFC, Inter Miami have displayed potential ahead of their debut season in Major League Soccer, even if it has yet to translate into a first official victory. Following that 1-0 defeat against one of the best teams in the league, David Beckham's new franchise lost their next four games in a row.

LAFC and Philadelphia Union beat Inter Miami in the regular season before the coronavirus break and Beckham's fledgling side have since all lost all three of their games in the group stage of the MLS is Back tournament, becoming the first debut team in the history of the league to lose their first five games.

The numbers are not backing up the project but Inter Miami’s head coach Diego Alonso said results don’t reflect the way the side are approaching games after their elimination from the tournament.

“The results from our first five games don’t reflect what we did on the field during 90 minutes. I think based on the way we play we deserve more but I also have to be honest today’s game against NYCFC was not our best one

"this team deserves more and we have to keep working hard. We are eliminated from this tournament but our main goal from the beginning has been to qualify for the playoffs and then try to win the MLS Cup final in our first year.” said Alonso during the post-game interview.

Inter Miami’s head coach also said he was proud of his players and he hopes that things will turn in their favor when the league resumes: “We have to be honest with ourselves and work on things we need to improve. We know of our potential and it is time to fix those little problems to start winning games and fight for the objectives we set prior to the beginning of the season.”
