Liverpool vs Chelsea: Premier League preview

With two games to go in the 2019/20 season the stakes are very different for Liverpool and Chelsea. The Reds have already secured a 19th league title and will lift the Premier League trophy for the first time on Wednesday evening. But having won 17 of their 18 home league fixtures so far this season they will want to end with a victory at Anfield against the side who knocked them out of the FA Cup in March. Chelsea come into the game knowing that a victory over Liverpool will be enough to secure Champions League football for next season and will be confident after reaching the FA Cup final last weekend. However there are few tougher places to visit in world football and will have to be at their best to come away with the three points.

Before Chelsea’s FA Cup victory over the Reds in March, Liverpool had been victorious in the last three meetings between the two sides.

Special plans in place for long-awaited trophy lift

It is not how they would have pictured it but Wednesday will be a night to remember for Liverpool fans as the title returns to Anfield. With fans unable to attend the Reds have planned a special ceremony to take place in the Kop on a specially-built platform. Captain Jordan Henderson is out injured but will lift the trophy, becoming the first Liverpool player to do so since Alan Hansen. To add to the occasion, Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish will hand out medals and players’ family members will be allowed to be in attendance having received special dispensation from the Premier League.
