Giovanni Reyna scores twice for Borussia Dortmund
The American midfielder continues to impress with Borussia Dortmund as he scored twice in an 11-2 friendly victory over Austria Vienna on Sunday.
Giovanni Reyna showcased his burgeoning talent during a pre-season game between Borussia Dortmund and Austria Vienna on Sunday. The Bundesliga side are aiming to challenge Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title next season and hope that their stable of young stars, including the 17-year-old American midfielder, help them achieve that goal.
Reyna scored twice as Dortmund ran out 11-2 victors in Austria. The midfielder is in his second season with Lucien Favre's senior side and his performances are leading the Dortmund coach to consider him for a regular starting spot ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
Reyna has now scored three times across two friendly games and after both matches he spoke to Dortmund-based journalist Stefan Buczko and said he was happy with the way his performances are going. “I played and scored two goals today. We have played well in these two games and we hope that we can keep these performances during the season,” Reyna said.
Reyna pushing for a starting role at Dortmund
Reyna signed for Dortmund’s U-19 team last year and then he was promoted to the first team, where he played 15 games in the Bundesliga over the course of 2019-20. So far this pre-season, he has completed the full 90 minutes in both games. Dortmund will play their first official match of the season on 11 September against Duisburg in the first round of the Pokal Cup.
