A vital three points for Real Madrid that sees Zidane's side share top spot in the LaLiga table with Villarreal, Valencia and Getafe after a dogged display against Valladolid where both goalkeepers were worthy men of the match.

Courtois. An exceptional display from the Belgian stopper who deprived the men from Castilla & Leon on three counts and was key in ensuring Zidane's side enjoyed a clean sheet.

Odriozola. The first start for the young defender since December of last year and Zidane will have been happy with his performance with the player competent in defence and always looking to assist attacks. Made way for Carvajal in the 57th minute.

Varane. A solid display from the French international who worked well with Ramos at the heart of the Real Madrid rear-guard in repelling any aerial threat the visitors offered.

Ramos. Composed at the back and another solid performance from the Real Madrid captain.

Marcelo. The Brazilian enjoyed a brighter first period where he was instrumental in all Madrid's build up play on the left hand side. Lunged in a dramatic fashion as Weissman almost opened the scoring for the guests and will want to forget his right footed shot that spiralled out for a throw in during the second half.

Modric. Another tireless performance from the Croatian who came close to scoring in the second half after an uncharacteristic mix-up from the Valladolid keeper and back-line only to see his effort strike the post.

Casemiro. The Brazilian will have hoped to have fired home in the 49th minute after the ball fell to him inside the six yard area as he blasted against the bar. Not as tuned into to the rhythm of the game as we are accustomed to from the central player.

Fede Valverde. The Uruguayan was tireless and delivered another characteristic performance in the central role, assisting in defensive duties as well as completing the forward line.

Isco. Drafted into the side as a replacement for the injured Toni Kroos, the player from Benalmadena was not as involved in the action as he would have hoped for and made way for Asensio in the second half.

Jovic. Came into the game with headlines linking the Serbian striker with a loan move away from the Spanish capital. The striker went close on three occasions before making way for Vinicius just before the hour mark. Just about passed his test with the forward showing plenty of endeavour.

Benzema. Not a game the French forward will look back on with fond memories with an uncharacteristically quiet performance from the man from Lyon.

Substitutes:

Carvajal (57’ change). Solid in defensive duties marshalling the right hand side.

Asensio (57’ change). The Mallorca born player looked lively in his 30 minutes plus at Valdebebas.

Vinicius (57’ change). Bagged the winner having been on the pitch for less than ten minutes. Could have doubled his tally in the final minute of added time but will want to avoid repeats of his attempted lob.

Mayoral (87’ change). The striker came on for Benzema but was afforded little or now time to make any mark on the game.
