Alfredo Talavera to miss Mexico's friendly against Algeria

The Pumas goalkeeper played against the Netherlands in Mexico's first friendly of the international break but suffered an injury in training.

Alfredo Talavera to miss Mexico's friendly against Algeria

Mexico’s national team will face Algeria in the second friendly of October's international break on Tuesday 13 October. ‘El Tri’ defeated the Netherlands 1-0 last week and now Gerardo Martino's side have traveled to the Cars Jeans Stadion to face the African side led by Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez.

For Tuesday's game it is expected that Martino will use the majority of the players that faced Netherlands last week, but he could be forced into a change between the sticks as keeper Alfredo Talavera is not 100 percent fit.

Talavera hurt during training

According to reports, the Pumas UNAM goalkeeper hurt his left knee during practice and will probably be unavailable to play against Algeria. Talavera was seen limping and Martino doesn’t want to risk a serious injury, so he will take a last-minute decision before the game.

The two options to replace Talavera are Rodolfo Cota of Club León and Hugo González of Monterrey. Both goalkeepers have experience at international level so either alternative shouldn’t affect Mexico's tactics against Algeria.
