Zinedine Zidane has announced his 20-man squad for Real Madrid’s LaLiga clash with Cádiz at the Alfredo di Stefano on Saturday (kick off, 18:30 CEST).

The most notable absence is Martin Odegaard with the 21-year-old midfielder suffering from an injury to the lower calf, according to a medical report released by the club on Friday afternoon. The report does not specify the the extent of the injury or the estimated period of absence for the Norweigan midfielder.

According to AS medical expert and columnist, Dr. José González, with this type of injury, Odegaard will need at least 10 days to recover and get back on the pitch, which would mean that he would miss next Saturday’s Clásico against Barcelona at Camp Nou.

Odegaard’s injury became known within the club just hours before the squad was announced for Saturday’s game. The Norweigan’s omission had initially been a surprise, as he had trained as normal on Friday, with the assumption that Zidane had left him out due to a coaching decision.

However it turns out that was not the case and Odegaard joins injured players Dani Carvajal, Álvaro Odriozola, Mariano and Eden Hazard, who will also miss the clash with Cadíz. Belgian star Hazard also remains a doubt for next weekend’s Clásico. Meanwhile, Eder Militao has made a full recovery and returns to the squad after an injury picked up in the preseason friendly against Getafe.

With Carvajal and Odriozola absent, Zidane has been left without a natural right back for the second game running, meaning Nacho will likely be drafted in to fill the position once again.

First call-up for Cañizares

Zidane has summoned 18-year-old Lucas Cañizares, son of former Madrid keeper Santiago Cañizares, as his third-choicekeeper for the visit of Álvaro Cervera's side. Cañizares is a member of the Juvenil A (U-19s) squad, which does not begin competition until the weekend of 1 November.

With Cañizares filling the third goalkeeping spot in the first team, it means that Castilla coach Raúl will have all three of his goalkeepers – Altube, Toni Fuidias and Luis López – available for the reserve team’s opening league fixture against Las Rozas on Sunday.
