Borussia Dortmund close the door on Gio Reyna’s possible move to Madrid
Gio Reyna's contract with Borussia Dortmund ends in 2021 and several of Europe's top clubs are trying to sign the 17-year-old United States international.
Gio Reyna has been impressive in Borussia Dortmund’s start to the new season, scoring one goal and four assists in four Bundesliga games. The 17-year-old was also on target in Dortmund's DFB-Pokal 5-0 victory over MSV Duisburg. He has become an important player for Lucien Favre this season and his performances have aroused the interest of a number of top clubs in Europe.
Real Madrid is one of the clubs who have shown an interest in signing the United States international, but BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke made it clear that they want to keep Reyna on their books. “We have a lot of young players and we want to keep the core of our team and we want to keep him for a long time.”
Reyna’s contract expires in 2021
Gio Reyna joined Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and his contract expires in June 2021. Borussia Dortmund have offered him a contract extension for another 3 years worth $2.5 million a year after he turns 18 years old in November.
