Back in May, then Democractic Presidential candidate Joe Biden expressed his support for equal pay for the United States women’s national team as they entered a legal battle with the U.S. Soccer federation.

To @USWNT: don’t give up this fight. This is not over yet. To @USSoccer: equal pay, now. Or else when I’m president, you can go elsewhere for World Cup funding,” he tweeted on 2 May.

His ‘old message’ is going viral

On 7 October it was confirmed that the electoral college had chosen Joe Biden to be the new president of the United States beating Donald Trump in a tight race to the White House. As millions were cheering for the Democratic victory, people in social media brought up the ‘old tweet’ he wrote expressing his support to the USWNT and what would happen once he was in office.

Biden will be sworn into office in January 2021 and if he keeps his promise, there will be a negotiation between the U.S. Soccer Federation and the U.S. Women’s National Team next year. Currently the USWNT is preparing to play the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and regain the gold medal won in the last tournament.
