The clash between CF Monterrey and Club León could be postponed due to coronavirus cases
The head coach of the current Liga MX champions, Ignacio Ambriz, said that the game could be postponed due to the number of players testing positive for coronavirus.
The coronavirus pandemic is now affecting the 2021 Guardinaes tournament in Mexico. Matchday three is set to start on 21 January with the clash between Atlético San Luis and Chivas. There are a total of nine matches scheduled between Thursday and Monday, but one of them could be postponed due to the high number of coronavirus cases among their players.
Yesterday it was reported that Rogelio Funes Mori, striker from CF Monterrey, didn’t practice with the rest of the team on Sunday after defeating Club América because he presented symptoms related to coronavirus.
For that reason América released a statement informing that they did a second round of tests for the players and coaching staff that were in Monterrey on Saturday. So far there has not been a positive case.
Monterrey’s next match is at home against Club León on Saturday 23 January and that game could be postponed. ‘Rayados’ has now a total of 19 cases of coronavirus that include players from the youth academy all the way to the first team.
León and Pachuca equalized in the last game of matchday 2 on Monday night and after the game the head coach from ‘La Fiera’ Ignacio Ambriz spoke about their next league rival and how the pandemic could affect the tournament.
Ambriz wants people to keep fighting against the virus
“I have talked to some bosses about what was going to happen this weekend and they told me that the match against Monterrey could be postponed. If that happens it would be moved to Tuesday 26 January. We have to keep fighting against this virus and our health comes first,” said Ambriz.
“I got the virus back in December because I stopped taking all the health recommendations from the authorities and I ended up in the hospital. So I urged the fans and the people in Mexico to cover their mouth and to stay at home as much as possible.”
