After the Major League Soccer and the MLSPA reached an agreement to start the 2021 season, many teams are already in pre-season and getting ready for their season openers in early April. One of the teams that have been very active in the off-season is Inter Miami CF and their first move was to part ways with Diego Alonso and sign Phil Neville as their new head coach.

Eyeing former Premier League players

With the experience and connections that Manchester United legends David Beckham and Neville have in Europe, they want to sign Premier League players ahead of their second season in Major League Soccer. One of the players they are targeting is Ryan Shawcross, who has been with Stoke City for almost 14 seasons.

The 33-year-old centre-back arrived at Stoke from Manchester Untied in 2007 and Inter Miami bosses are closing in on a deal to bring him to the United States for the start of the pre-season on 22 February.

“There’s an ongoing situation at the minute with Ryan. There is interest from an MLS club, discussions are open and forthright on that but nothing is concluded at this minute in time. Ryan has expressed the interest if the opportunity is given and we as a club have to recognise what Ryan has given us in terms of service,” said Stoke City head coach Michael O’Neill after the scoreless draw against Reading.

Gibbs interest

Another player that Beckham and Neville are targeting is Kieran Gibbs, who started his career at Arsenal and is now playing with West Bromwich Albion. In 2017, the full-back extended his contract with the Baggies for four more years and reports claim that they rejected an offer from Inter Miami during the January transfer window.
