Real Madrid concern as injured Kroos returns early from Germany camp
Toni Kroos has left Germany's training base due to an adductor muscle injury and will undergo more tests at Real Madrid's Valdebebas facilities on Wednesday.
Toni Kroos has left Germany’s training camp due to injury ahead of Die Mannschaft’s run of World Cup qualifying fixtures that start on Thursday.
The Real Madrid midfielder had travelled to Düsseldorf yesterday to join up with his national team mates. He will now see out his recovery back in Madrid.
The German Federation issued a statement confirming that the 31-year-old is experiencing adductor muscle issue. Kroos is set to return to Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training center on Wednesday, where more tests will be carried out on the injury.
"Our medical department has examined and treated Toni intensively. He would have liked to stay with us, and I am reluctant to do without him. With a view to the European Championship tournament in the summer, we have decided that a full recovery from this injury is the utmost priority,” said Germany coach Joachim Low.
Low’s side will play their opening World Cup qualifier against Iceland on Thursday, followed by qualifying games against Romania on Sunday and North Macedonia next Wednesday, 31 March.
Kroos doubtful for Real Madrid-Eibar
AS understands that the injury does not appear to be serious, although the real extent of the injury will not be made known until after he is examined by Madrid’s medical team. Initial observations suggest that his return is a preventive decision in order to avoid a more serious injury.
As it stands, the German international is doubtful for Real Madrid’s LaLiga game against Eibar on Saturday 3 April, but should be available for the first leg of the Champions League quarter final tie against Liverpool on the 6 April.
Real Madrid cleared to play Liverpool at home
The news comes as it was confirmed that Madrid will be able to play that first leg of the Liverpool tie at home at the Estadio Alfredo del Stefano.
There had been uncertainty about whether Madrid would be able to play at home due to the restrictions in place on flights entering Spain from the United Kingdom. However, a Spanish government spokesperson has confirmed that these restrictions will end on 30 March, meaning Liverpool can travel to the Spanish capital for the game on 6 April.
