Inter Miami reach a deal to sign Kieran Gibbs
The former Arsenal defender has agreed to the terms established by the Major League Soccer franchise and he will be eligible to play starting 1 July.
David Beckham has kept his eyes on the English league during the Major League Soccer transfer window and a few weeks ago he signed Ryan Shawcross from Stoke City. He saw the back line was a weak point for Inter Miami CF in their debut season, so the co-owner of the team keeps providing new manager Phil Neville with strong signings.
Former Arsenal defender to join Inter Miami
On Tuesday the Franchise from Miami confirmed the arrival of former Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs ahead of the start of the 2021 Major League Soccer season. The 31-year-old left-back is currently playing for West Bromwich Albion and he will join the MLS side on 1 July, following the conclusion of the 2020/21 Premier League season.
“Kieran is an exciting player. His technique, experience and work rate will be valuable on the left flank,” Inter Miami sporting director Chris Henderson said in Tuesday's release. “He has had a standout career at the highest levels so far, and we believe he can continue bringing this same level of quality to Inter Miami and MLS this summer.”
Gibbs started his professional career in 2007 when he made his debut for Arsenal, where he spent 10 seasons, making 137 league appearances and scoring two goals. In 2017 he joined West Bromwich Albion and his contract expires this summer so he will arrive on a free transfer at Inter Miami CF. Gibbs also won 10 senior caps for the England national football team between 2010 and 2015.
