15 teams guarantee their spots in 2022 AFCON

Algeria is leading the list of teams that have guaranteed their places in the 2022 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon following Thursday and Friday's matchdays.

Fifteen African national teams have secured their spots in the 2022 AFCON to be hosted by Cameroon next January following the qualifying fixtures that were held on Thursday and Friday.

Guinea and Mali of Group A have secured their places as they earned 11 and 10 points respectively, while group B fixtures saw the qualification of Burkina Faso, the leader of the group on 9 points, while Uganda and Malawi are vying for the second qualification ticket.

As for group C, Ghana have guaranteed their place in the next AFCON edition. Meanwhile, South Africa and Sudan are competing for the second qualifying spot. In group D both Gabon and Gambia have claimed the two qualifying spots in the group.

Morocco have officially claimed their qualification ticket topping Group E after racking up 10 points ahead of their game against Mauritania, who will be racing Burundi for the second qualifying place with both sides level on 5 points.

The host country Cameroon have qualified from Group F while Rwanda and Mozambique are looking to secure the second place in the group standings.

A draw grants Egypt their ticket to 2022 AFCON

Egypt, the record seven-time champions, guaranteed their place in the upcoming event following their away draw with Kenya, while the second qualifying spot was occupied by Comoros, who drew with Togo to secure their place in the AFCON for the first time in their history.

Leader of Group H Algeria guaranteed their place in the tournament, with the second spot in the group occupied by Zimbabwe.

As for Group I, the group winner Senegal are through, while Congo and Guinea-Bissau are eyeing the second spot of the group.

In Group J Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea guaranteed their existence in Cameroon while qualifying spots of both Groups K and L haven't been decided yet.
