Manchester United and Roma will go head-to-head at Old Trafford on Thursday in the first of their two semi-final battles for a spot in the Europa League trophy decider.

United, the chief favorites to lift the trophy, will face a team that are on a run of just one win from their last seven league games.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men haven’t really struggled to get to the semi-finals, as they totally dismantled Real Sociedad in the round of 16 and easily beat Granada in the quarter-finals.

However, the Red Devils have lost the four semis they have played with Solskjaer as manager, so it will be an extra challenge for the former United player, who will try to lift the trophy following 2017's final success under José Mourinho against Ajax.

History favors United

The English side, who are sitting second in the Premier League table, 10 points behind ‘untouchables’ Manchester City, are unbeaten in their last 17 home games in the Europa League.

Meanwhile, Roma are only in seventh position in the Serie A standings with 55 points (33 matches played, 16 wins, seven draws, 10 losses), 24 points behind leaders Inter Milan.

I Giallorossi got to this stage of the Europa League after defeating Sporting Braga and Ajax, although the Italian side suffered until the last minute to go through against the Dutch team, as they won in the first leg (1-2) and Ajax were close to defeating Roma in the second match (1-1).

Edin Dzeko’s Roma will challenge United and history, as they have won only one of their 17 previous European fixtures in England, losing 10 of those games, including three at Old Trafford. The likes of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani will try to make it four on Thursday.
