Qatar committed to saving water during 2022 World Cup

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy is committed to implementing a sustainable vision for water consumption during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as part of a comprehensive sustainability plan for the tournament.

As it detailed in a report published this week, the Supreme Committee intends to apply best water-consumption practices by embracing the latest and most effective techniques for conserving water during major sporting events.

Notably, Qatar’s World Cup stadiums have been designed to include water-saving technologies, with smart water meters monitoring water consumption at the venues.

The stadiums will feature low-flush toilets, while the parks surrounding the arenas will come with highly efficient irrigation systems. These stadiums and parks will be used by tens of thousands of fans during the World Cup.

The park next to the Al Bayt Stadium was opened over a year ago, both to provide the public with a space for sports and leisure, and to gain experience in the management of such facilities ahead of the World Cup.

2022 World Cup matches will be held at eight stadiums: Khalifa International, Al Janoub, Education City, Ahmed Bin Ali, Al Bayt, Al Thumama, Ras Abu Aboud and Lusail.
