Which cities have hosted the Summer Olympics up to 2021?
The Summer Olympics has been held in 23 different cities, with Tokyo poised to become the latest venue to have hosted multiple Games.
A total of 23 cities from 19 different countries have hosted the Summer Olympics since the modern Games began in 1896, with four cities staging the event on more than one occasion.
Tokyo to become latest host of multiple Summer Olympics
Tokyo will become the fifth host of multiple Summer Olympics when it puts on the postponed 2020 Games this summer, having also been the venue in 1964.

Paris, LA to join London as three-time hosts
Having been chosen to host the Summer Olympics in 2024, Paris will become only the second city after London to stage the Games three times.
Four years after that, Los Angeles is also due to stage its third Olympics. Paris and LA were confirmed as the 2024 and 2028 hosts, respectively, in September 2017.
Meanwhile, 2008 venue Beijing is set to establish itself as the only city to stage both the Summer and Winter Games when it hosts the Winter Olympics in 2022.
