Konrad de la Fuente: Barcelona youngster joins Marseille

After weeks of negotiations, FC Barcelona and Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement for the transfer of the United States striker, Konrad de la Fuente. The Ligue 1 side had to pay three million euros for the 19-year-old and Barça will retain 50% of any future sale of the player.

Second American in the Ligue 1 2021/22 season

De la Fuente signed a four-year deal with Marseille and the French bosses didn’t allow the LaLiga side to include a buy-back-clause at the end of the 2021/22 season. The United States men’s national team player didn’t see the minutes he expected in his first full season with Barcelona’s senior team.

The USMNT striker only made two appearances in the UEFA Champions League last season and he didn’t make his debut in LaLiga. He was one of the most promising young players that emerged from ‘La Masia’ and the Catalan bosses had renewed his contract until 2022.

De la Fuente had gone through all 11 youth teams at Barcelona and won league titles with the U16B (2015-16), U16A (2016-17), U19B ( 2017-18) and Franc Artiga's U19A (2019-20). Now he will have an opportunity to showcase his talent with Marseille under manager Jorge Sampaoli. De la Fuente will be the second American to play in the French league in the upcoming season, with Tim Weah playing for Lille OSC.
