The Hawks came up with a huge victory in their last game at home before returning to Milwaukee for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The series is tied at 2-2 but the bigger news going into Thursday’s contest at the Fiserv Forum is the status Hawks star Trae Young and Milwaukee’s MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The two super stars of this series went down in each of the two games in Georgia. Trae Young went to the locker room late in the third quarter after stepping on the referee’s foot. He came back, but was noticeably hindered by the ankle injury, scoring just three points in the fourth quarter. He was diagnosed with a bone bruise and sat out Game 4 on Tuesday.
Giannis suffered a hyperextended left knee in the third quarter of Tuesday’s game after landed awkwardly going up for a rebound. The Greek went crashing to the ground immediately and was writhing in pain before going to the locker room and not returning to action.
The Trae Young-less Hawks were leading by 10 points, before Giannis went down with 7 minutes remaining in the third. Just a few minutes later Atlanta stretched their lead to 20.
Lou Williams led the the way for the Hawks, scoring 21 points. Nate McMillans rock steady substiute off the bench has won the NBA Sixth Man of the year three times (in 2015, 2018, and 2019). Williams started last game in the absence Young and did not disappoint. He added 8 assists to his stat sheet while shooting 7 of 9 from the field.
The Bucks return home, where they have won six of seven in the postseason to take on one of the top road teams in the NBA this season. Atlanta have won six of nine games on the road in the playoffs.
As of Wednesday, Trae Young was listed as questionable for Game 5 in Wisconsin. The two time MVP reiceved good news after an MRI showed no structural damage to his hyperextended knee, but the Bucks say he is doubtful for Thursday night's game.
