Women's soccer quarterfinals USA vs. Netherlands
After finishing second in Group G, the USA, the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champions, will take on the Netherlands, winners of Group F, the reigning European champions and runners-up at the 2019 World Cup.
This will be the third time the World Cup finalists have met in the knockout rounds of the subsequent Olympics and the second such instance involving the USWNT.
It will be the ninth meeting all-time between the USA and the Netherlands and their second matchup in the knockout rounds of a world championship. The first such meeting came on July 7, 2019, as the USWNT defeated the Netherlands, 2-0, in Lyon, France, to win the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup title.
The most recent meeting between the teams came on November 27, 2020, which ended up with a 2-0 win for the USA in Breda, the Netherlands, in the team’s first match in 261 days after a long pause in programming due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Overall, the USA leads the series with a record of eight wins and one draw.

Baseball opening round - USA vs. Israel
Both teams are geared up to lock horns in the baseball opening round Group B match. As per the WBSC rankings, the USA are placed seventh, while Israel are 17 places below them at 24th.
Israel made an impressive start to their Olympics campaign. They lost 5-6 against the Republic of Korea, but they almost stunned their opponents. The Koreans trailed 2-0 after which grabbed a 5-4 lead. Israel’s Ryan Lavarnway drew the equaliser in the ninth inning with his second homer of the game.
In the top of the tenth inning, both sides began with runners on first and second for the tie-breaking rule. In the end, Seunghwan Oh was the game-winning pitcher, striking out five and allowing a homer.
The USA, which go into the match as clear favorites, had to work a tad hard to make the Olympics. They finished fourth in the 2019 WBSC Premier12 in November 2019. However, the USA won the Americas Qualifying Event in June 2021.
The team’s roaster was put forth on July 2 with Mike Scioscia being named as the manager. The 24-member roaster has 12 pitchers and 12 position players.

Swimming finals - Men's 100m butterfly, Women's 200m backstroke, Women's 800m freestyle, Mixed 100m medley
There will be four finals in day eighth of Tokyo 2020 swimming, starting with the men's 100m butterfly before moving onto the women's 200m backstroke, women's 800m freestyle and then concluding the day with newly introduced to the Games mixed 4x100m medley relay.
World record holder Caeleb Dressel is the favourite to succeed once again and win the gold in the men’s 100m butterfly.
The U.S. sensation set a world record to claim the global title in 2019 and will be looking to add the Olympic gold medal to confirm his status as the dominant force in the event.
But it will be far from an easy task for him, as he will be challenged by Olympic 200m butterfly champion Kristof Milak of Hungary.
Meanwhile Australia’s Kaylee McKeown could claim a rare 100-200m backstroke double when she dives into the pool in the women’s 200m backstroke. She won her maiden individual Olympic gold medal in the 100m backstroke earlier in the week.
Canada’s Kylie Masse will be aiming for revenge, after touching second behind McKeown in the 100m backstroke final.
Katie Ledecky of the U.S., one of the main stars of these Olympics, will be in action in the 800m freestyle for a shot at an unprecedented third consecutive gold medal in her pet event.
The night’s swimming will come to an end when the inaugural mixed 4x100 medley relay champions will be crowned.

Athletics Men's 10,000m Final
As the current 10,000m world record holder, Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei will be one to watch when the 10,000m final takes place at the end of the first day of the athletics competition.
The 2019 world champion, who also holds the world 5,000m record, ran a world record time of 26:11.00 in a 2020 meet in Valencia to mark himself out as the athlete to beat at this year's Games.
However, Cheptegei's compatriot Jacob Kiplimo will pose a threat, as he proved by posting a time of 26:33.93 last May. Kenya's two-time New York Marathon winner Geoffrey Kamworor, who won the Kenyan Olympic trials on 27:01.06, 27, will also be seeking for gold.
