Doncic and Mavs agree to mega 5 year extension
Dallas superstar Luka Doncic has agreed to a five year extension worth $207 million. The Mavs franchise player will sign the contract in Slovenia on Tuesday.
The Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic have agreed to astrnomical five year, $207 million dollar supermax rookie extenstion, according to statement made by agent Bill Duffy of BDA Sports to ESPN.
Luka next up to take the torch
The Slovenian has been a sensation since coming into the league at the ripe age of 19. He is one of the headliners of the next generation of NBA superstars waiting to take the baton from the likes of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry.
Doncic has been in the league for just three seasons, and has made the All-Star team the last two. He became eligible for the max rookie extension after being voted two his second All-Star game this season.
Doncic returned to Slovenia after Tokyo 2020
The Mavs playmaking Mr. Everything is enjoying some time off in his native Slovenia after taking the national team to the Bronze medal match in the Olympics. Dallas owner Mark Cuban and a handful of front office staff landed in Ljubljana on Monday, and Doncic is expected to sign the contract on Tuesday.
"Today is a dream come true," said Doncic. "The game of basketball has given me so much and has taken me to so many amazing places. I am humbled and excited to remain in Dallas as part of the Mavericks.”
The deal comes just days after Trae Young, another superstar from Doncic’s 2018 draft class, signed the same contract with the Atlanta Hawks. Young and Doncic both went in the top five after being involved in a draft day trade, and since then have injected life into their respective franchises.
In his short career he has won the Euroleague MVP while winning the Euroleague title, NBA Rookie of the Year, and been a part of the All-NBA first team two years running. Doncic joins Kevin Durant as the only two players to be selected to multiple first teams before the age of 23 since the ABA-NBA merger.

In his first three years, the 22 year old has averaged 25.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game. While the numbers have been staggering, Doncic and the Mavs have been bounced from the first round of the playoffs the last two season.
"I can't wait for the future both on and off the basketball court." said Doncic, who will have a player option in the final season of his five year deal.
