FIFA World Cup CONCACAF qualifiers in September: games, dates and group
8 teams in the CONCACAF region are vying for three automatic spaces at the Qatar World Cup with the fourth place side progressing to a play-off.
From the original 35 sides in the CONCACAF region that started out on their quest to progress to Qatar, just eight remain with three automatic spaces up for grabs with a play-off spot on the line for the side that finishes fourth.
Regional 'big guns', Mexico, USA, Honduras, Costa Rica and Jamaica got a bye to the final group by virtue of their FIFA ranking with Canada, Panama and El Salvador qualifying through a series of group stage and play-off process.
Qualifying format
All eight sides in the final group will play one another in a home-away format with games getting underway on 3 September and the group concluding in March 2022. The top three sides will secure their automatic ticket to the Qatar 2022 World Cup with the fourth placed team having to enter a play-off against a side from either the AFC, OFC or CONMEBOL with these games being staged in June 2022.
