Chris Richards extends his loan in Hoffenheim
FC Bayern Munich decided to extend the United States defender’s contract until 2025, but he will remain with Hoffenheim for one more season.
With the transfer window closing in Europe’s top flight leagues, many teams announced roster updates ahead of the 2021/22 season. On Tuesday night, Hoffenheim confirmed that Chris Richards will remain with them on loan for one more campaign, after joining the club in February of this year.
Richards could return to Bayern next season
At the same time, the German giants announced that the United States defender agreed to sign a contract extension until 2025 and he could return to Munich next season. According to transfermarkt, Chris Richards market value is $8.25 million and he is the second most valuable United States center-back.
“We’re very pleased with how Chris Richards has developed with us, which is why we've extended his contract. Chris is a young player who will now gain further Bundesliga experience at Hoffenheim, which is exactly what he needs,” said the board member for sport at Bayern Hasan Salihamidzić.
The American defender returned to Bayern for the current season, while they were negotiating with Hoffenheim to extend his loan. The German giants have played three Bundesliga games this campaign and Richards only played 2 minutes in the 3-2 victory against FC Köln on 22 August.
