Reguilón replaces injured Gayà in Spain squad
The Valencia player is leaving the training camp as a precaution after feeling some discomfort against Georgia. Reguilón replaces him for the game against Kosovo.
Two days before Spain's World Cup qualifier against Kosovo, the national team has been forced into a change of personnel due to injuries. According to the RFEF this morning, José Luis Gayà will leave La Roja's training camp on Monday after feeling discomfort in his calf after Sunday's 4-0 win over Georgia.
The Valencian player, who scored and played 74 minutes, is returning to Valencia with pain which, according to the Spanish FA's statement, was the reason that prevented him from finishing Sunday's game. Before returning home, the full-back underwent an MRI scan at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital to find out the extent of the injury, for which there is still no diagnosis. "The MRI only shows a small muscular oedema in the left soleus. We recommend a couple of days of rest and then assess the evolution of the injury. He will leave the training camp this afternoon. The medical services of Valencia CF have already been informed," the Federation said.
Spain manager Luis Enrique has called up Sergio Reguilón to replace José Luis Gayà. The Tottenham player will train on Monday with the rest of the internationals in Las Rozas and will travel to Pristina for the national team's last game of the international break against Kosovo on Wednesday 8 September at 20:45 CEST. "When they called me I sent a quick message to Gayà to see how he was doing. It's nice to be taken into consideration and to be here with my team-mates," said the full-back on his arrival at the training camp.
