Manchester City to enter race to sign Kylian Mbappé from PSG
According to reports in England, City's owner has given the club's directors the opportunity to try to sign the French forward from PSG.
Manchester City are preparing for what could be the biggest signing of the next decade.
According to Ian McGarry and Duncan Castles, English journalists specialising in the transfer market, the Premier League club are going to attempt to steal Kylian Mbappé from under Real Madrid's nose. Sheikh Mansour, the club's owner, has reportedly given the green light to sign the French forward at any price.
City to do battle with Real Madrid
Mansour has given City's sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, the go ahead to push for the transfer, propose a high salary, a high signing-on fee and convince the player to sign for the Manchester outfit and not Real Madrid.
Mbappé's contract with PSG expires on June 30 and he continues to reject new offers to renew his contract. Guardiola's team are favourites to lift the Premier League title this season and are also one of the best placed sides to win the Champions League. Since the arrival of Sheikh Mansour, City have not won the Champions League.
With Guardiola at the helm, they came close last season when they lost the final to Premier League rivals Chelsea. Should they fail to win it this season, the arrival of a player of Mbappé's calibre should bring them closer to European success.
For the moment, Mbappé remains focused on the season ahead with PSG. He was voted player of the month for August in Ligue 1. With less than a hundred days to go before he is free to negotiate and sign for the club of his choice, a new suitor has joined what will be the transfer battle of the summer.
