Keylor Navas could lead new Newcastle United project
On Thursday, the Premier League approved the takeover of Saudi Arabia’s Public Fund to take an 80% stake in the team and the PSG goalkeeper could lead the new project.
Keylor Navas is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 2024, but since the Ligue 1 side decided to bring in Gigi Donnarumma this summer, there has been a fight for the starting goalkeeping position. But the Costa Rican is at a disadvantage as he is 34-years-old and this could force him to look for a new challenge.
Newcastle United aware of Navas’ situation
On Thursday, it was confirmed by the Premier League that Newcastle United was bought by the Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and this deal was reported to be worth $305 million in 2020. This means that they will own 80% of the club and this will end Mike Ashley’s 14-year ownership at St James' Park.
With Newcastle being one of the richest clubs in the world, they will focus on building a competitive team to try to win the Premier League title in the near future and Keylor Navas could lead this new project. According to The Sun, the goalkeeper from Costa Rica is the ideal candidate to become the first ‘star’ signing ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Navas has proven to be a world class goalkeeper and he helped Real Madrid win three back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles during his time there. The veteran player has also won the league title with Paris Saint-Germain, among others, since arriving in 2019 and played the UCL final last season, but lost to Bayern Munich.
