Kun Agüero to announce his retirement from football on Wednesday

Sergio Agüero will call time on his professional career by announcing that he is hanging up his boots for good at the age of 33. Kun has been forced to make a definitive decision about his future due to the cardiac problems which caused him to suffer an arrhythmia during Barcelona's league meeting with Alavés at Camp Nou on 30 Octuber.

Catalan daily El Periódico report that the Argentinean plans to officially announce that he is leaving football on Wednesday (15 December), and that Barça have something prepared to mark the event. Journalist Gerard Romero broke the news about Agüero quitting the game on 20 November.

Hospital tests

Agüero suffered an arrhythmia in what was just his fourth appearance for Barça and spent two days undergoing a rigourous series of tests in hospital to find a diagnosis. It was initially hoped that the player would only be out for a relatively short time while undergoing treatment but in the end he has been forced to retire.

It brings Agüero's brief time at Barça to end - just a few months after his arrival on a free contract from Manchester City in an operation which was hoped might convince Leo Messi to stay on at the club. In total, Kun played in five games between LaLiga and the Champions League, totalling 165 minutes on-field and scoring one goal - in the el Clásico against Real Madrid.
