Newcastle United vs Manchester United: times, TV and how to watch online

Manchester United return to action having last played in a 1-0 win over Norwich City on 11 December with their fixtures against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford not going ahead after a string of covid-19 cases left them with just 11 fit players, three of which were goalkeepers.

United are unbeaten in three games in all competitions under new German coach Ralf Rangnick since he arrived at Old Trafford but have had two Premier League games postponed and last played on 11 December.

The 63-year-old German is a proponent of "gegenpressing" - a style of soccer in which teams press high and use counter-pressing to win the ball back as soon as possible, rather than falling back to regroup.

"We understand his ideas and what he wants to play. Slowly, we will be where he wants us to be. It's a bit of everything, not just pressing... You must be physically ready and play well tactically," United defender Matic said.

Newcastle looking to react

The Magpies languish at the foot of the table with the worst defensive record in the league and are staring relegation in the face which is a scenario not relished by new Saudi Arabian backed owners. The come into Monday's clash on the back of a 0-4 home defeat to the other Manchester side on 19 December with any honeymoon spirit after the takeover now a distant memory for the St. James faithful.

Eddie Howe will also be missing some key players with doubts over Krafth, Manquillo and Shelvey. Guaranteed absentees will be injured:Lewis, Fernández and Dummett with Hayden ruled out via suspension.
