Is Valentín Castellanos going to leave New York City FC?
The Argentine striker from New York City FC has several offers on the table after a breakout performance during the 2021 Major League Soccer campaign.
Valentín ‘Taty’ Castellanos led the New York City Football Club to win the 2021 MLS Cup, their first one in franchise history, and won the golden boot award after scoring 22 goals during the regular season. The 23-year-old had a breakout performance with NYCFC last year and several clubs are keen to sign him during the January transfer window.
Mysterious message from ‘Taty’
It is not certain if ‘Taty’ Castellanos will return for the 2022 MLS regular season that is scheduled to start in late-February. The striker from Argentina sent a mysterious message on his Twitter account. He posted an emoji of two eyes and an hourglass. This could mean that it is a matter of time for him to reach a deal with a new team, but NYCFC have put a price tag on him of $20 million.
Castellanos is under contract with the MLS side until 2025 and they want to retain him for the upcoming season. According to the latest reports, River Plate from Argentina and Brazilian side Palmeiras are willing to pay his value to sign him and fight to win the 2022 Copa Libertadores.
Not too long ago, Valentín Castellanos confirmed that people close to River Plate’s coach, Marcelo Gallardo, got in contact with him regarding joining the Argentine side. “A person close to Gallardo called me and playing for River and having him as a coach is a dream. So I told him I was interested,” he said.
River Plate has to make an offer soon because Palmeiras will send an offer close to $18 million to sign Castellanos to the people in charge of the Major League Soccer club. Another club that has show interest in the 23-year-old is Premier League side West Ham United.
