How long is Chiefs player Tyrann Mathieu ruled out for after sustaining a concussion?
Tyrann Mathieu left the field of play in the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.
Tyrann Mathieu received a knee to his helmet and was immediately evaluated for a concussion after sustaining the blow. The 29-year-old was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. Mathieu is now a doubt for the AFC Championship Game against Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday 30 January.
The defensive player was hurt when Chiefs defensive tackle Jarran Reed inadvertently kneed him in the head while pursuing Josh Allen. The Chiefs then changed things up, placing Daniel Sorensen and Armani Watts alongside Juan Thornhill. The experienced Chiefs safety was missed and this became evident on Allen’s 75-yard strike to Davis in the third quarter, which made it 23-21. Mathieu’s status throughout the coming week will be monitored closely.
Mahomes on fire
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes calmly lead his team 44 yards into field-goal range against the Bills in the final moments of regulation. Harrison Butker sent the game to overtime with a bulls-eye 49-yard field goal. The Chiefs won the overtime coin-toss and this was when Mahomes took care of business, finding Travis Kelce for a game-winning touchdown. The Chiefs secured a 42-36 win that sent them to the AFC Championship Game.
Bengals next
This will be the Chiefs' fourth straight AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium, the first time a team will play host to four consecutive conference title games. They face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday 30 January in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium. The Bengals won 34-31 in the most recent meeting between the teams on 2 January, a defeat that ended an eight-game winning streak for the Chiefs.
