El Tri, sitting third in the standings with 18 points, are unbeaten in their last three games, after losing 2-1 to leaders Canada last November.
Their opponents go into the match with only one defeat in their last five games, and they have proven they are an offensive menace for Gerardo Martino's men, as they scored three goals in their narrow 3-2 win over Jamaica in their last match.
Both teams eyeing second spot
A closely fought battle is expected when these two teams lock horns in Mexico City, as Panama are in fourth position, only one point behind the Mexicans. Moreover, they have already beaten top teams in the division like the USA back in October (1-0). The USMNT are sitting second, but level on points with Mexico and with only one more point than Panama.
However, the recent story seems to favor the hosts, as Mexico haven't lost to Panama since 2013, and Martino's men have won four and drawn one of their past five head-to-head encounters with Panama.
