Joe Scally scores his first Bundesliga goal with Borussia Mönchengladbach
The United States defender was not called to the USMNT even though he is an emerging star for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Joe Scally helped Borussia Mönchengladbach defeat Wolfsburg 3-1 in the Bundesliga at the Volkswagen Arena. The United States defender played the full 90 minutes and scored his first Bundesliga goal in stoppage time. Scally is one of the emerging stars of the team and he has started the first seven games of the campaign and he has never been substituted.
Scally deserves a call with the USMNT
The American player is only 18-years-old and he has played in different positions with Mönchengladbach during his seventh-straight league start. Scally won 11 of 34 duels against Wolfsburg and drew four fouls on Saturday. He also made four tackles, two clearances and a key interception.
Even though he is having a breakout season with Mönchengladbach, Scally was not called to the United States men’s national team for the FIFA international break of October. The teenager could serve as a second option to Sergiño Dest or play alongside the FC Barcelona player.
Also Antonee Robinson has been getting starts with the USMNT under manager Gregg Berhalter, but he is not performing as well as Joe Scally. Robinson has struggled this season with Fulham and they have lost back-to-back games.
