NCAA Baseball Week 3 Matchups

Week two saw 17th ranked Tennessee beat Iona 29-0 to record its most lopsided win ever. The Vols have put up some big numbers, outscoring their opponents 121-8 through the first eight games. Their relatively low ranking is a result of the quality of their schedule, but they could make big strides toward the top ten if they can pull one out when they face the nation’s top program, the University of Texas Longhorns, this Friday.

MLB cancels opening day, season’s first games

Texas gave up just one run to Alabama in week two and are also sitting with an 8-0 record. The SEC certainly has the polls heavily weighted Southward, but the Big 12 is pushing hard on the rankings, with the TCU Horned Frogs and Texas Tech Red Raiders making the Top 25 while the Oklahoma State Cowboys join the Longhorns in the Top 10.

While facing the Tennessee Volunteers will be a tall order for the Longhorns, their weekend will just get harder on Saturday, when they will have to face the seventh-ranked LSU Tigers. This is absolutely hands-down the game of the week, and no doubt about it. The Tigers have had a good start to the season, dropping one to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, but their quality, with four .400 hitters and four .300 hitters in their lineup, has the pollsters salivating. Dropping a game to Texas would see them likely drop out of the Top 10, so expect a full-court press from LSU. The Tigers currently lead the SEC in errors and will need to get that in check if they expect to stay in contention.
