David Alaba’s chair celebration during Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday night has gone viral and the images of him waving the plastic folding seat are already part of Madrid lore for fans of the Spanish club.

The Austrian defender spoke about his euphoric celebration on Sport1 and admitted he got carried away when Benzema scored what would prove to be the goal that took Madrid to the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier soccer tournament. “It’s good to try a new celebration from time to time,” said Alaba, laughing. “The seat was great. I didn’t think about it much, it was the emotion. With a comeback like that you go crazy!”

Real Madrid relied on their fans in PSG win

The Madrid stopper admitted he was stunned by the level of support from the Real Madrid fans on a night that will go down in the club’s history books. “The fans didn’t leave us alone out on the pitch, they were behind all our play and we were able to pay them back for it. It was a magical night!”
